West Ham Dominate in the Championship as Spurs Remain Scoreless

West Ham made the most emphatic of statements in the Championship, thrashing Wrexham 6-0 at the London Stadium to go top of the table. Six different scorers — Bowen, Piroe, Mavropanos, Castellanos, Kanté and Solomon — underlined the scale of Nuno Espírito Santo's side's ambitions in the second tier. After failing to win any of their first three matches following relegation, West Ham have now won four straight, a turnaround that signals they intend to make a swift return to the Premier League.

Elsewhere in the top flight, the early-season picture grew more complicated for several clubs. Tottenham were held 0-0 by Everton — their fourth Premier League match without a win and, more strikingly, without a single goal — though news that Lucas Bergvall has signed a new contract after previously requesting to leave gave Spurs supporters something to hold onto. Aston Villa's difficult start continued, three defeats from four leaving Unai Emery under scrutiny, while Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Hull City at Stamford Bridge prompted Xabi Alonso to call for greater defensive resolve. Ipswich, meanwhile, claimed a late win at Crystal Palace through Zian Flemming's first goal for the club, with the home side reduced to ten men.
