EFL Investigates Sheffield United Over Allegations Owners Evaded £35m Payment
The EFL is investigating allegations that Sheffield United's owners, COH Sports, formed a new parent company to avoid paying £35m owed to former owner Prince Abdullah. COH Sports agreed a deal to buy the club for around £100m in December 2024 but are alleged to have missed multiple payments. Abdullah's investment vehicle has issued a winding-up petition in the high court and referred concerns to both the EFL and the Independent Football Regulator. A winding-up petition combined with an active EFL and Independent Football Regulator investigation puts Sheffield United's ownership and financial future in serious jeopardy.
