Sunderland Return to European Football for First Time in 53 Years

Sunderland travel to Portugal to face Torreense in the Europa League on Thursday, their first competitive match on European soil since 1972. Torreense, a second-tier Portuguese side, earned their Europa League place by beating Sporting in last season's Portuguese Cup final and go into the game having already beaten Lillestrom 2-1.
